US EXPORT · NIGERIA & AFRICA
Before you export
Confirm rules with the US port and destination customs authority before buying. This is guidance, not clearance approval.
1. Check the vehicle and title
Match the VIN or equipment serial number to ownership documents. Review title brands, lien releases, accident history, auction condition reports and inspection evidence. Obtain the required original title or the alternative documents accepted by CBP for your specific case.
2. Prepare US export documents
Used self-propelled vehicles generally require Electronic Export Information filed through AES at least 72 hours before export, regardless of value or condition; limited exceptions apply. Confirm the port’s document submission and vehicle presentation process separately.
3. Plan the shipment
Obtain separate quotes for auction fees, storage, US inland pickup, port handling, ocean freight, insurance and destination charges. Running vehicles may suit roll-on/roll-off; damaged vehicles, bikes and equipment may need containers or specialist loading. Availability is carrier-specific.
4. Nigeria destination checks
Confirm current eligibility, customs valuation, classification, age and steering rules with Nigeria Customs or a licensed broker before bidding. The app’s Nigeria calculator uses sample assumptions, not a binding customs assessment. Trucks, bikes, forklifts, trailers and boats can have different classifications and charges.
5. Other African destinations
Requirements differ by country. Kenya has right-hand-drive, inspection and age requirements; South Africa restricts used-vehicle imports and requires permits in specified circumstances. Do not assume a US left-hand-drive vehicle can enter every country. Confirm destination rules for the exact vehicle and shipment date.
6. Green Light, accident and salvage lots
Green Light is an auction condition label, not proof of no damage, a clean title, roadworthiness or import eligibility. Accident and salvage vehicles need a careful damage review, repair budget and destination-specific title checks. Vehicle-history records can be incomplete; verify the actual auction disclosures.
